Car rental in Ukraine is reaching a qualitatively new level. With the simplification of the visa regime with the EU, roads to the West have opened up for Ukrainians, and for companies there, prospects for entering our market have appeared. The same applies to the car rental industry. World-famous companies like EuropCar no longer seem so inaccessible. But Ukrainian ones are not far behind. Not only in Kyiv, but also throughout the country, car rentals are opening for city and international trips. It is good that this area remains untouched by the state. For example, in Greece, the treasury is replenished by renting out police cars. It is difficult to imagine the reaction of the capital's residents if, instead of patrolling the city and its environs, they drove to the sea in a Toyota Prius. Therefore, in the matter of rental, the main thing is to decide on the 'right' company and follow a number of tips that we will give below.

Car rental in Ukraine: what, from whom, where

If we review the services provided by our rentals, the set will be quite standard. We are offered a car with or without a driver, hourly and daily rent, GPS system, child seat, additional insurance and the possibility of adding a second driver, unlimited mileage and a reduced deposit. As for the location of the companies' offices, everything is quite predictable. In addition to the capital, large cities are in the lead - Dnepropetrovsk, Odessa, Lviv, Kharkov. Small rental companies were found in each regional center. Well, according to the network feature, the winners were Hertz and Sixt, which have 11 offices in Ukraine.

How much does it cost to rent a car?

Rental price is the most extensive and diverse indicator in Ukraine. As in Europe, it depends on the class of car and the number of days. The lowest is for economy class cars. In Ukraine, it starts at 30 and ends at 95 euros. In theory, the price will go down even more if you rent a car for more than 2 days. Therefore, the most budget-friendly company was Europcar with its 238 euros per week. There are a lot of rental options. The main thing is to choose the one that suits your wallet, occasion, desire and capabilities.

Car rental tips

While in Europe car rental is more common than here, it is also worth focusing on their experience and rules. The more you know, the better you sleep. Therefore:
  1. It is better to choose a car and book it in advance - you will be able to choose the one you like from the entire fleet, and not what is currently available.
  2. Payment in most rentals is made by credit card. After withdrawing money for the rental, a security deposit will be blocked on it. It depends on the class of the car you choose. Basically, it starts from 200-300 euros. It is very rare to find services where the security deposit is taken in cash.
  3. Additional insurance is not a way to make money on clients. It is, first of all, a concern for their safety and wallet. You never know what can happen during the rental. If you did not take out insurance, you pay the full amount. And not according to your calculations.
  4. If you have never driven a car with a manual transmission in your life, then rent a car with an automatic. The same applies to the clause on advance booking.
  5. Read the contract carefully and do not sign if you are not satisfied with any of the clauses.
  6. When receiving the 'swallow', pay attention to the body, record all scratches, abrasions and dents. Be sure to include them in the contract so that you do not have to pay for damage that was not your fault.
  7. Since the car is rented, you should always have the contract, passport and driver's license with you. You should also be careful with traffic rules - serious violators are immediately put on the 'black list'!
  8. Smoking is also not welcome. If you neglect this advice, at least do not leave cigarette butts in the car. This can result in a large fine.
  9. Do not forget to clarify about the daily or general travel limit. For each additional kilometer you will have to pay a lot of money! The same applies to the driving area. If it is prohibited to leave the region or border, this is immediately revealed. Do not take risks!
  10. Return the car with a full tank and during working hours of the service. On weekends, employees come out for an additional fee.
