- Life corridor, or how to behave when the rescue service goes out on the highway?
Due to the increase in the number of cars and the terrible condition of the road surface on the roads of Ukraine, the number of accidents is growing. Unfortunately, we have big problems with the creation of the so-called life corridor, which helps emergency services to effectively get to the scene of a traffic accident to save victims. We remind you of the rules for creating a passage for ambulances and fire brigades. The life corridor, or the creation of a passage on a congested highway for emergency services, is not a new invention. The rules for its creation were developed back in the 80s and in many countries, including Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary, the issue of creating a corridor has been clearly regulated by law for many years, and serious fines are provided for these violations. In Ukraine, this is not yet regulated by anything, but nothing prevents drivers from observing at least an unspoken rule. Moreover, the principle of creating a life corridor is the same in all European countries. The rule is simple: drivers in the far left lane move down to the left edge of the road or to the divider, and cars from the right lane move to the right edge - even if this means driving onto the shoulder. If there are more than two lanes, a corridor is always created between the far left and right lanes. It is important to note that drivers must create a corridor immediately, and not wait for ambulances or fire trucks. Another important note. The isthmus created in this way can in no way be used for overtaking, it can only be used by emergency services. Unfortunately, in Ukraine, some drivers do not realize that by preventing the unimpeded passage of an ambulance or fire service, they not only create a threat on the road, but also dramatically reduce the chances of being injured in an accident. Abroad, fines range from several hundred to several thousand euros simply for not moving to the edge of the road during a traffic jam. No matter how high the fines are, they are not the point! It is worth considering whether our time is more important than life?
