- Southern Ukraine – a treasure trove of cultural and natural wealth: Odessa and Odessa region
Are you planning a tourist trip to the Black Sea region of Ukraine, but don’t know where to go? A typical case, given the weak marketing activity of the region’s recreational and tourist businesses and the low mobility of the population. But believe me, there are so many unique and amazing cultural and natural sites in the Odessa, Nikolaev and Kherson regions alone that you won’t have enough time to personally touch the history of the region. To see as many historical sites as possible and not be tied to time, we recommend
renting a car for the duration of your tour. Medieval military fortresses of the Ottoman and Russian empires, Khortytsia – the cradle of the Cossacks, Odessa – the architectural and cultural pearl of the entire post-Soviet space, a real sandy desert surrounded by the world’s largest artificially planted forest, underground cities, geysers, the Sivash Dead Sea – all this is the South of Ukraine. This territory can truly be called wonderful. It combines the heritage of various cultural eras. Scythians, Cimmerians, Sarmatians, Greeks, Byzantines, Turks – each of the peoples inhabited this region at one time, shaping the history of the region. Knowing about all the riches of Southern Ukraine, it becomes clear why at one time different ethnic groups fought for the right to live here. The climate in the region is moderate, with a clear difference between spring, summer, autumn and winter. Summer is hot and slightly dry, winter is mild, with little precipitation. The location far from all centers of tectonic vibrations reduces the occurrence of destructive earthquakes to zero.

The main asset and pride of the region is its cultural capital, a pearl by the sea – Odessa. Immersion in this extremely colorful and multicultural city will give an idea of the very national diversity of the south. The historical center of Odessa is a natural open-air museum. The architectural sophistication and 'soul' of each building is felt in every brick. Such eminent minds of their time as Alexander Pushkin, Mark Twain, Anton Chekhov, Nikolai Gogol, General Richelieu, Joseph de Ribas and many others walked along the steps of the famous Potemkin Stairs and Primorsky Boulevard. In the summer, Odessa is completely transformed, resembling more a noisy Spanish resort than the cultural capital of the South. The city is located on the Black Sea coast and has dozens of wide sandy beaches. Dozens of clubs, amusement parks, recreational areas are at the service of residents and tourists - in general, you can relax for every taste. The so-called Odessa dialect and the mentality of the population, urban legends and authentic jokes deserve a separate description, but it is better to come and see once than to hear about it a hundred times. And in the vicinity of Odessa, the so-called 'Ukrainian Venice' is hidden. This name was given for a reason: the town of Vilkovo is penetrated by many canals connected by wooden bridges. In the very south of Odessa region, a mighty medieval Turkish fortress has been preserved. Akkerman outpost is the largest in Ukraine.
